Colorsync wrong Gamma for 709 Content.
Hello everyone,
I dont know why Colorsync uses the inverse camera OETF for rec709 content , so its like gamma 1.95 for everything that is Tagged 1-1-1 in quicktime, same with the FCPX viewer and anything playing back on youtube, so every mac user using safari or chrome is watching all online videos with a gamma 1.95 to Display conversion by colorsync.
Rec709 files should be treated as gamma 2.4! That what they have been mastered on.
display gamma is discussed in EBU Tech 3320 and specified in ITU-R BT.1886 as a gamma of 2.4.
In typical production practice the encoding function of image sources is adjusted so that the final picture has the desired aesthetic look, as viewed on a reference monitor with a gamma of 2.4 (per ITU-R BT.1886) in a dim reference viewing environment (per ITU-R BT.2035).
Nobody in the world is mastering anything on a Gamma 1.95 monitor so please change it.
Before that there was no definition for Rec709 Display and many used the inverse camera 709 OETF
iOS does not have this 'problem' it also doesn't do color management for any video sources.
