At least on the iPhone we can group text users where they're iPhone or non-iPhone users. How can this feature not exist for the Mac OS.
I don't have to ask anyone to change any setting when I group message on iPhone. But there has to be a solution for the Mac OS by now,

macOS doesn't have a cellular connection by which it can send SMS text messages. If you configure you iPhone to enable Text Message Forwarding to your Mac, you should be able to send group messages to both iMessage and SMS.
I don't know of an app that can communicate directly with the cellular SMS protocol. You would need some sort of gateway to connect you to the SMS network. Text Message Forwarding does that by using you iPhone as the gateway.

I have seen a lot of people use an I.M. chat like Whatsapp or something like that. For mac, try some I.M. chat if you're trying to use this for work. Otherwise, I am not sure if you can because you probably know that you can't text android users on mac or ipad.
I feel the same way Sergio. I do believe that the partial reasoning behind this, is because they don't want to support android on their MacOS devices, but I always wish it was a thing especially when I am carrying my macbook around and I just need to text a friend or something like that. It's been like this for years, and I don't see it changing anytime soon...
