Is there a fix for connection problem on Time Machine
Should I move components around, restart Time Capsule, restart Mac - any ideas?
Thanks, Tom

Changing to a cable connection predictably worked but revealed little
about the cause. Fooled around with Settings all to no avail - decided
to check the cable from disk to Airport. Swapped in a new one - voila!
She hooked up right away and Time Machine did its business. But something
new's been added - the backup disk now appears on the desktop - even 'tho
it's connected wirelessly to Airport. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal, that behavior is controlled through Finder=>Preferences through the boxes you can check or uncheck there.
