Apple TV+ free subscription with new purchase. I already have a subscription...

I already have apple . I purchased a new 4K Apple TV unit that comes with a free year of Apple TV . Do I have to cancel my current subscription or does my subscription continue from this point forward using the new, free 1 yr deal?
