Apple CarPlay Disconnects from Acura RDX

The Apple CarPlay connection in my RDX has become extremely unstable, frequently disconnecting with an active route (Maps), during a phone call, or during playback (Spotify). I've had the vehicle about two years, and this is something that rarely happened in the past, but now happens all the time.

I use an iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 14.2.

I've had some suspicions that the AcuraLink app or my VPN was causing the issue, but deleting/disabling either or both of them made no difference.

This is a known issue that has been the subject of several threads over the past year or more, including hundreds of postings. There was even talk of a class action suit against Acura. I had this problem for months and finally solved it about a year ago by doing a system settings reset as described on page 354 of the 2019 RDX Owner's Manual. This procedure was recommended by Acura. (Some users did both the system settings and the vehicle settings.) It worked for me but the problem returned a few weeks ago when my phone was using iOS 14.2. Today I updated the iPhone to iOS version 14.3. If that doesn't solve it, I'm going to do the Acura reset once more. Refer to a thread begun by Richard Unger on Jan. 10, 2019 under the heading "Apple CarPlay problem with 2019 Acura RDX and iPhone X." The discussion, one of several on this topic, runs to 25 pages. I'm n ot an expert on this topic, btw. It's just that I've been down this rabbit hole once before.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, jeffk99!

From our understanding, your CarPlay connection seems to be disconnecting periodically. We’d be happy to take a look!

Since it’s been some time since you posted, there’s been a new update that was released for your iPhone. We’d recommend completing a backup and updating using: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the same behavior occurs after updating, we’d recommending forgetting the vehicle in Settings > General > CarPlay. Once complete, forget the iPhone in the vehicle menu settings as well, then set that up again.

If you’re connecting wirelessly, does the same thing occur when you connect using a cable?

Cheers!
