Trying to unlock an iPhone 8

Trying to unlock the passcode on an iPhone 8. I get as far as the restore message displayed on the phone but it is not showing up on my computer even though the computer makes the connection sound. When I connect a phone that is unlocked it shows on my computer but the phone has to be unlocked so I am guessing that's why the locked one isn't showing.

Does it matter that I am on a Windows pc rather than an Apple computer? (I don't have an Apple computer).

Click here and follow the instructions. It doesn't matter that you're on a PC as long as it has iTunes installed.

It actually doesn't matter. PC or Mac. However...

Connect iPhone to Computer

thank you. I tried another cable and it connected to iTunes and I clicked the box to update the phone and reset it. However, it hasn't changed the setting on the phone, it is still saying it is locked. :-(
