Ringtones not working in iPhone XR

All my settings are correct. I have selected ringtones and text alerts in each of my contacts and do not disturb is turned off. and the mute switch is not activated I have also tried power off. Can’t find anything that specifically addresses my problem. With everything set correctly why doesn’t ringtones work? How do I get ringtones to work? Have tried Apple links but unsuccessful.
