i simply want to download everything in my icloud accoount to my mac and cancel the icloud account
i simply want to download EVERYTHING I HAVE IN iCLOUD TO MY MAC AND CANCEL. SHOULD TAKE A COUPLE MINUTES NOT HOURS!

You are dealing with downloading variable size objects from iCloud over the variable speed Internet. If your Mac is using a rotational drive, instead of an SSD, the time is further dialated waiting on the local storage response time. The first 5 GB of iCloud storage is free.
