Hi,
I am looking to trade in a phone but want to give the new phone to my daughter for Christmas . Is there a way to trade it in after we receive the new one and have it applied to payment after purchase?

If you set up the trade while ordering a new phone online from the Apple Store, they ship the trade in return kit on or shortly after the date that the new phone ships. You have 14 days from receipt of the kit to return the phone (although you can take longer but the original estimated value may change). They then credit the payment method that you used to pay for the new phone. More details in the FAQ section of Apple Trade In - Apple
