MTLCompilerService hangup crashes program when using Cinema4D

Hey there, I’m on a base model mid-2015 Macbook Pro 15”. It’s under the Metal GroupFamily 1 (no version). I have about 50GB of free space on my harddrive, 16GB of ram, and no issues with Blender, Photoshop, After Effects, etc, but I just tried to open Cinema 4D and it crashes as soon as I add an object to an empty project (a plane, to be exact). It doesn’t even show up in the viewport, even though it shows up in the project objects list on the right side and its attributes pop up below (although everything is unclickable and the program is immediately unresponsive).

I check the Activity Monitor and Cinema 4D is using a normal amount of 500-600mb, but then MTLCompilerService appears and is taking 18-23GB of memory that increases the longer I leave it before force quitting the program. It looks like some sort of hangup or compiler bug, but I have no idea what or why. I haven’t really seen this solved anywhere online, and have only seen like 1-3 slightly similar instances mentioned.

I have tried a restart, but have not tried a fresh reinstall or safe mode reboot yet. Wondering if something went wrong with install of Big Sur a month or two ago, or if something went wrong with the After Effects/Cinema 4D install.

This isn’t the whole error report, I can get that and post it, but here’s a small chunk about the MLTCompilerService that repeated multiple times in the error report:

Update - found what’s going on. Looks like it’s an Big Sur bug for specific hardware - woohoo, gotta wait until Apple addresses this or downgrade to Catalina. Hope this helps someone!
