I want to setup my dads old apple watch to my phone but when I try to set it up it says there’s a update and I can’t continue to set it up because it says I’m not connected to WiFi so I’m not able to update it

I had the same sorta issue with my wife’s old Apple Watch as well. I had to setup like a new Apple Watch instead. Also, she had to remove the original Apple Watch from her iCloud account list of devices.
