Apple iphone 12 compass app - pointing to south instead of north - 180 degrees wrong
Is there a fix for this?

This may sound strange but informant on web suggested trying to delete the app (press and hold app icon, choose 'remove app' option in the normal manner) The app won't delete but it reorients the compass 180 degrees/resets the compass!! After all other suggestions failed, tried it and it worked!!! By the way my iphone is in a magnetic protective case, for those who think its the magnetic case causing a problem.
