Gift Card + PayPal for iPad purchase question??

I have 8 apple gift cards earned from credit card points and want to apply them to my new iPad purchase and use PayPal to pay the remaining balance. I read this message just before I purchased it. "You can use up to 8 Apple Gift Cards. Apple Gift Cards can't be used with Apple Pay, PayPal or split credit card payments". What should I do?
