Disadvantages of using HomePod as TV speaker.

We connected our HomePod as the default Apple TV speaker and are so happy with the results that we’re thinking of getting a stereo pair. No problems with connection and usage.

But we’ve realised an issue and I want to check if this is usual or something that needs troubleshooting. When we turn Apple TV off at the plug during the day (we turn off all devices we don’t use, TV, DVD, rather than standby) The HomePod won’t respond to some usual commands (play my songs). Having paired the HomePod to the Apple TV, is it now reliant on that connection being live to be able to perform non-TV audio functions?

I think this is an area that Apple haven't quite got right yet. Even with your Apple TV powered up and in standby you may find that calling on Siri to play music may want to wake up the Apple TV. If so you may prefer to connect the Apple TV to the HomePod on demand rather than setting it as the default output device.
