I bought new Airpods from Staples. How do I register them for the one-year warranty?

You shouldn't have do anything to register them. They are associated with your Apple ID when they are connected:
Connect and use your AirPods and AirPods Pro
Your one-year warranty starts when they are purchased. You can verify by entering your serial number from the box here:
Check Your Service and Support Coverage
However, be aware that some third-party retailers are slow to enter the information.
