Wifi antenna in screen of Macbook Air

I had an old Macbook that i put on a stand (so it was shut) and added a monitor. I got no wi-fi signal, because, the wi fi antenna was in the screen and stopped when the screen was closed, so it was no use to me. Im thinking of buying the new M1 Macbook Air and trying again. There are many stands that require the Air to be closed to fit the stand, whilst using a monitor. Will I get the same problem please?

Hey there cliviticus,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re having issues using Wi-Fi while your Mac is in closed-display mode. We’ll be happy to help.

You should be able to use Wi-Fi on your Mac even when it’s in clamshell mode. Take a look at this article for more details on this:

Use your Mac notebook computer in closed-display mode with an external display

If Wi-Fi isn’t working as expected when doing this, see if the steps in these articles have any impact on this issue:

If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi

We hope this helps.

Take care.
