Touchpad hot and static sound even when muted

In the last couple of days the touchpad on my macbook has been uncomfortably warm (along the top edge closest to the space bar), and then tonight a static-y sound started happening through 4

- even when I mute the sound. I'm actually not 100% sure that the sound is actually coming from the speakers. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could try to do to attempt to troubleshoot?

MacBook, OS X 10.11

There are a few things to try, in the matter of troubleshooting your MacBook version.

One of those, probably easier than some; is start in Safe mode, after reading the article.

Be sure to keep the macbook where ventilation is best. Not on a soft cushion, or on lap.

And to not use portable Mac in some restrictive case as those can hinder cool air flow.

Perhaps try an SMC reset ~ if your Mac has T2 chip, or not; instructions cover both.

Good luck & happy trails!
