How exactly does Family Sharing work?

I bought an Application from the App store that said it supported Family Sharing, my son who is a member of the Family group also downloaded it via the Purchased By: Dad option of the App Store but the software as downloaded still requires payment?

I was assuming that an Application purchased by me could be shared at no cost to other family members. If it makes a difference the App itself was bought using its In-App purchase method.

I'm not sure I understand this part. Is it asking for payment for the base app, or is it an in-app purchase that is requiring payment?

The base app should be downloadable by family members. However, if it has in-app purchases, those would have to be purchased by someone in the family. I think you would have to look at the terms of the individual app to determine if in-app purchases are covered by Family Sharing.

I think you should contact the App Store Support people as all we can do is provide general guidance on how it should work. Specific information pertaining to the license of a particular app might be beyond our capability unless we had purchased the same app under similar conditions as you.
