When I follow the instructions, it will not accept my new email address

I have read a couple of other posts where people have had problems with Comcast email addresses. If you log into your Apple ID, does the Comcast address show anywhere? Reachable At? Rescue address? If so, remove it from your ID. You will have to wait 30 days before you can use that address as your Apple ID email address.
