Canon laser printer driver install on MacOS 11

I use Two Macs running Mac OS11: an M1-based Mac mini, and an Intel-based i9 iMac.

I cannot install the printer driver for a Canon ImageClass MF4570wd on either machine in MacOS 11.

The Canon support page identifies the driver as compatible with MacOS 11; however, when I initialize the installer I receive this message:

"Cannot install on this version of the operating system you are using."

(See attached screenshot.)

Anyone else have this problem and discover a workaround?

BTW, yes, it's Canon's product, but I could find no information or support for this problem on their web page.

Additional information:

The driver installed just fine on the Intel-based iMac in Mac OS 10.15.

When loading the page on either Mac, the Canon support page misidentifies the Mac's OS as 10.15, but it allows me to select "MacOS 11" and then displays a driver, compatible with "Mac OS : 10.10/10.11/10.12/10.13/10.14/10.15/11.0."

Speculation:

Is this an installer issue only? In other words, is there a way to extract the drivers and manually install them?

Thank you.

Update: on December 9 (before the date of my initial message) Canon posted the following printer driver for installation on their Canon ImageClass MF-series printers in macOS 11:

"MF Printer Driver & Utilities for Macintosh V10.11.6 [Mac OS : 10.10.5 - 11.0.1]"

The installer now works for this in macOS 11 on both Intel-based and M1-based Macs.

Note that, although the fax and scanner drivers are also listed as compatible with macOS 11, their installers will not yet work. I assume that Canon will address this in the near future.

Although Canon shows support for macOS 11.0.1, with their Nov/Dec 2020 software, that does not mean that they have produced driver software that is compatible with the M1 Apple Silicon architecture. You should reach out to Canon for further assistance.

Your ImageClass device does not appear to be supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint solution either. You may want to share the Big Sur Intel printer with your M1 Big Sur Mac to resolve printing until Canon catches up.

Blurry eyes here. You did say nada on either machine. Sorry. Yes, you will likely need to revert to Catalina via a boot into Recovery on the Intel Mac by selecting the Restore from Time Machine Backup menu entry. That process will wipe the Big Sur startup drive, and repave it with the last Catalina backup that you took before upgrading. Then give the printer sharing a go.
