LG 5K2K Ultrawide (34WK95U) and MacBook Pro (16" 2019)

When connecting my LG 5K2K to my MacBook Pro, via Thunderbolt 3, the maximum resolution is only 3840x1440 (if I select scaled, 3840x2160 is available as well). This far under the expected resolution of this monitor.

I have the monitor set as DisplayPort 1.4 compatible (for Thunderbolt), so that should not be the issue.

If I switch to a USB-C display port cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RY75V7Q), I can then get the full 5k input resolution of the monitor (as well as HDR).

I've tried the cable that came with the monitor. I bought an Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable (0.8m)... I'm out of ideas, why won't this thing run in the full 5k mode with a thunderbolt cable?

You can download latest "[Mac OS] OnScreen Control - version 4.40" below link:

https://www.lg.com/us/support/software-firmware-drivers?customerModelCode=34UM58-P&csSalesCode=34UM58-P.ATT&category=CT10000030&subcategory=CT30000200

In my case, the firmware update did not work on the Mac, so I updated it on Windows 10([Windows] OnScreen Control - version 5.71)

For the current monitor firmware version, run OSC(OnScreen Control) and click Confirm Update to display the current version.

In my MBP16" BigSur 11.1

5K2K, HDR works fine with Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt3 Cable and USB-C to Displayport 1.4 Cable.

(You must need to change the DisplayPort version of the monitor general settings to 1.4)

You must update latest firmware 34wk95u-w with On screen controller sofrware.

(Latest version is 4.12, 0, 4.17 on Jan 11, 2021)

It is recommended to update on windows (cannot be updated on bigsur mac)

And Your Monitor general settings Displayport to 1.4.

Finally your 34wk95u now fully 5k2k and also use HDR option.

Using the DisplayPort I can already get 5k2k and HDR, just not with USB-C.

I'm fine with upgrading the firmware, but I can't figure out how to learn what firmware I already have.

Do you have a pointer on where to download this? I've searched LG and I can find the manuals and "Dual Controller" software, which isn't what I want. But I've not found any firmware updates.
