How to test software compatibility before upgrading to Big Sur.

Is there a way to test software compatibility before upgrading to Big Sur? So far I only see starting the upgrade process and getting a list to review before committing to the upgrade, but I'd rather run a preview test separately.

https://roaringapps.com has a crowd source list. I don't know how complete it is.

Other than that, as long as it is 64-bit and it didn't require an installer, it will most likely work.

If it did use an installer, it may still work, but the odds of it breaking are much higher than an App Store app or a Drag and Drop app.

The reason being, needing an installer implies some "hack" to the system. Those will often break.

Some apps just use an installer to add an update checker or license checker that runs at login. These usually don't have a problem with new OS versions.
