I'm on Sierra 10.12.6. When I check for updates, it says that my software is up to date. How do I update?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Pro model you have, download High Sierra, Catalina, or Big Sur through the links provided.

Hi Neil
I followed this thread and installed Catalina 10.15.7, but I realized that I have a lot of 32 bit stand alone apps ( Microsoft apps and not a fan of subscription based programs) that I used and my timeline external hdd is in HFS format.
I have restored my previous OS - MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012 ) using timeline.
I do need to upgrade my MacOS to install latest Lightroom and other softwares. What do you suggest?

Use the Catalina one.

Catalina is not a choice. No choices (versions) are showing as available. It says I'm up to date even though there are multiple later versions available.
Click on Catalina above.
