gray "do not remove" sticker

there was a gray "do not remove" sticker on my macbook 13" when i first took it out of the box. when i peeled it off (since i figured i'm the consumer, so i can do what i want), it left behind little "void"s all over where the sticker was. they are proving to be a pain to get off, but i have no idea why apple would put such an irritating sticker on a beautiful white macbook. everything was sealed and untampered with, so i'm assuming this sticker came from apple. what other reasons could there be? and what is the sticker for? it's got a barcode and a ten digit number of some sort underneath it. help?!

That's strange. I agree with Joey on this one. It would be blasphemy to put a sticker on a new, clean Macbook, and Apple would surely not do it themselves. On some machines, a sticker like that would be over a seam that, if tampered with to get inside the computer for some reason, would void the warranty. Apple does not do this to their products, though.
From where did you get your Macbook? If it went through the hands of a third-party store or something similar, they may have added the sticker when it came to them and may be able to give you more information.

I did buy it through a third or maybe fourth party who claimed that the laptop was brand-new never been opened. I did go through the experience of opening it up and setting it up for the first time and I am not noticing anything out of the ordinary. All the proper wrappers were in place with the official looking stickers and perforated tear strip thingy on the folder thingy the laptop came in. Is it likely that some third party company would have access to the same stickers Apple uses? What are some red flags I should be looking for?

The only decals ( stickers ) you should find with any New Apple Product are the White Apple ones.
You can find those decals pretty much anywhere online, If your MacBook came from a Third party seller it may have been repaired or refurbished and repackaged to look like a Newly opened box with a New MacBook inside.

If I would have found any sort of sticker on a MacBook after opening it ( especially one that says don not remove ) ... Would be returned real fast.

I bought my MacBook from a local Camera Store ( mostly because of a no tax sale ) but I have been dealing with them for six months ( also bought all my Nikon equipment from them ) and I knew they have a very good reputation in Santa Barbara.
