Does Apple TV allow NBA?

I have an older Apple TV and it no longer has NBA on it. It also won’t allow me to use airplay. It only has the sound. I can look at recorded videos on NBA, but not live games. Is there any way to make this work?

The newer models Apple TV (4th generation or later) are supported for the NBA app, including live content.

My model is not 4th generation. I believe it is 3rd. What I am asking, is there a work-around? I thought the work-around was to use AirPlay, but that doesn’t work either. I’m not buying a new Apple TV just to watch basketball. I will just watch it on my iPad. But that is not convenient when there are other people around.

It is up to the content provider (NBA) to support AirPlay or not. I am not aware of other workarounds.
