Apple Car Play Crashing iPhone 12 Pro Max

Hey, so not sure if anyone is still having issues with this, however I found this thread because I was in the same boat up until about 5 minutes ago. Came across a Reddit thread and found a fix. Worked for me, hopefully it’ll work for you guys as well. Apparently there’s a toggle to access certain things when the device is locked. USB accessories is one of them. Settings<Face ID & Passcode< USB Accessories

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro (iOS 14.3). Funny enough the constant restarting started occurring around one week ago but the iOS update is much longer ago, if I recall correctly.

I’m driving a Holden (Chevrolet) Colorado wot the car play version 2.

Interesting to note, my wife’s iPhone 8 Plus has also the latest iOS and it also shows constant connection issues but no restarts.

You're not alone! It's not your car or your charger, it's definitely the 12 pro max. I've tried all of the trouble shooting steps given by support & nothing has worked. Other iPhones I've tested work just fine, so it'd definitely a bug w/ the new phone. I'm certain this is a software issue & they need to do an update to fix the bug.

My Apple Car Play also crashes while using my iPhone 12 Mini. I have a Mercedes Benz GLE350 (2021). Didn't know if this problem was occurring because of my new vehicle or my new iPhone. Previously I had a 2018 Mercedes and an iPhone 11 Pro Max and never experienced this sort of crashing with the Apple Car Play. It's very frustrating, and actually dangerous. I'm a female who travels alone quite often cross-country; the crashing and rebooting occurs while I'm on phone calls and using my GPS. My software is up to date.

I was having a painful experience with my new iPhone as well, giving black screen and glitching. I did all the troubleshooting I could and eventually got it exchanged for a different phone which is working absolutely fine more

I have the 2020 iPhone SE and am running into this same problem. Recently we bought a 2020 Suburban. Every-time I drive it my phone restarts when I get a call and also restarts randomly throughout the drive. I deleted MyLink, the Chevrolet app, deleted the Bluetooth connection and yet it is still shutting down. Since it started doing this, it also shuts down in my father’s Chevrolet truck which has car play but I have never linked too.

Same problem my end,

If plug the phone set my Apple maps up it works fine.

1. If i then recieve a call it crashes and force restarts the phone
2. Or if i set a destination on maps then try to set another destination it crashes and force restarts
3. if unplug my lighting cable at any point and plug back in. the second i unlock my phone it force restarts

This is really becoming and issue as i work a second job on evenings doing deliveries and i need some form of maps. Seriously considering returning my iPhone as its not fit for purpose. I never had this issue with the iphone 11 on 14.3.2 update

I’m having the same issue with the 2019 (GMC) Holden Arcadia paired with the iPhone Xr updated to the lates OS, the phone will connect to CarPlay (via wire) and then will crash and then go back to the default home screen of the car’s OS, and then reconnect with car play around 5 seconds after crashing, the cycle would then repeat.

I had an issue with my CarPlay and while I didn’t have any connection issues or restarts screen was blurry. I tried new cable but while on my 11 pro max was working perfectly on my 12 pro max screen did the same. After trying several solutions I found a video that said to put it on airplane mode and restart phone then switch back to normal and connect. It worked like a charm. I don’t know why though and I believe that Apple has to do some investigation to actually solve this.

I am having a simile issue, phone connects to CarPlay ok, then 20mins later phone restarts or if I receive a call it restarts!! Like yourself I’ve tried all steps both from apple and 3rd party!! Must be big in 14.3, surprises other people haven’t started to complaints

iPhone 12 ProPlus Max & crashing CarPlay. 2017 Range Rover Sport Autobiography all previous series of iPhone worked flawlessly until the launch of the 12 series; which seems to be impacting just the 12 Pro MAX.

I have followed all recommendations including reinstalling CarPlay and the result is the same, that is a ‘constant rebooting which looses any phone call, streaming music selection evaporates and Navi looses its destination.

Apple may not care but the due diligence team sure failed to test the CarPlay in house suite.

When can we expect acknowledgment this is an ongoing problem and the expected fix?

I did all the steps and still having the issue in two Ford vehicles.

endless restart loop

Additionally if connected to it and working when you leave the vehicle it will subsequently crash later and make the phone unusable because it won’t turn on.

Absolutely right it's proven now it's a problem with iphone 12 pro max as I have this model with me. My iphone xr is able to connect without any problems but iphone 12 pro max gives frequent disconnections issues in just 2 or 3 minutes of connecting it with apple car play in the car.

This is beyond a joke!! CarPlay disconnects calls, navigation and music every time I use it, the 12 pro max has had at least 2 software releases since launch and this still hasn’t fixed the issue!!

seriously when it’s apple going to acknowledge this issue????

Has there been any resolution for this? I've reset, backed up & restored, set as a new iPhone, nothing has worked. Extremely frustrating. I actually use a different phone while driving to avoid the sudden interrupted screen.
