have iMac 27 2012 - will not reboot after Catalina updated

holding D down when rebooting and it does not go into diagnosis or anything just blank white screen


but can get into Recovery by hitting R. and ran first aid on drive which seems fine

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13

Dis-attach any external drives. Boot into Safe Mode ( SHIFT key ) immediately at startup. It will attempt a disk repair, clear chase fines and only load required software to load the macOS >> so it loads very slowly so be patient. If all goes well, it will boot and present log in screen. Keep it there for maybe 5 - 10 minutes than boot normal mode
