Notification Center for Messages randomly stops sending notifications; sounds or banners

Messages is set to create a sound and banner in notification center when a new message is received. This randomly stops working. If I restart Notifications Center it will work fine, until I open the messages window to read the message, then the next incoming will not trigger a sound or banner; even if I close the messages window. I’ve rebooted the computer and it does the same thing.

Brand 2018 Mac mini with Catalina. 3.6ghz, 8 gig RAM.

It does nothing but run IC Realtime, a security camera app. I’ve quit the app to see if that helped and no dice.

A little frustrating, as our security guards need to be alerted about incoming messages.

Hi there, b_rant!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like your text notifications are not working on your Mac mini. Based on what you're describing, since the text messages are still coming in on the Mac, we recommend taking a look at this article with steps to follow for How to use safe mode on your Mac. This will perform checks and stop certain software from starting up automatically. Once you are in safe mode, test to see if you have the same issue.

Let us know the results and have a wonderful day!
