I've had my new Mac Mini for about 3 weeks now and loving 92% of it. I'm getting sharp 4K HDR @ 60 Hertz for video playback, however, only getting stereo audio output. Is it possible to get dolby digital audio out from the Mac Mini?
Any input on this topic would be appreciated... thank you...

Thanks but all I have is a stereo button, if I click on it it just confirms Configuration is stereo with a tick. I don’t get the options you are seeing.

I addition to your complete hardware setup, what apps are you using
for video playback? Is it streaming from some service?
Mac mini is connected to TV via HDMI. TV is connected to Sonos Beam via ARC HDMI. When streaming content from the TV, Dolby Digital works fine. When streaming from the Mac, I only get stereo output.

So Apple is being Apple, I get it. No big deal. Dolby Digital works when I watch movies from the Amazon Prime app on my TV so will just do that. Thank you for the respnse.

You don't get it because your TV doesn't support it. There's no way around it.
The new mini won't separate HDMI into optical and won't support a TV/Amp that does it. It needs HDMI all the way, with the TV and Amp spec'ed for HDMI-ARC. You need both a new TV and a new Amp.

No, your conclusion is wrong. Looks like an issue with the Amazon Prime App on Apple TV. Play your content using the Apple TV+ App, it should work.
You keep bringing up Apple TV, but my question is about the M1 Mac mini. I agree with you that the Apple TV 4K is a very capable device... I have 3 of them. It's all good, man. Enjoy the holidays.

Read slowly: don’t use the same Amazon Prime app, try the Apple TV+ App on the mini. It might work.
