Sidecar issues

Having trouble with sidecar, when I'm trying to connect I get a "device has been timed out". Please advise on what to do about the issue.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!


It sounds like you are having an issue with Sidecar on your iPad.

Can you provide a little more information about this issue?


  • Which Mac are you trying to use with your iPad, and what macOS is running on it? (Click the  menu > About This Mac)
  • Which iPad do you have, and what iPadOS is running on it? (Tap Settings > General > About).
  • Have you ever been able to use Sidecar with these two devices?


Please make sure all of the requirements for Sidecar below are met.

Restart both devices as an initial troubleshooting step.

Update the macOS and iPadOS if needed.


Use your iPad as a second display for your Mac with Sidecar

"Sidecar requires a compatible Mac using macOS Catalina or later and a compatible iPad using iPadOS 13 or later.



Additional requirements
