Apple Fitness+
I do not have an Apple TV to use with the Apple Fitness + app. Will using an HDMI cable from my iPhone to TV work to display the video?

I do not have an Apple TV to use with the Apple Fitness + app. Will using an HDMI cable from my iPhone to TV work to display the video?
Hello duke_luke,
I was planning on doing the same as you, but unfortunately no the iphone HDMI adapter will not work to view Fitness+ on your TV. :-(
Summary: Please update Fitness+ to be compatible to work via HDMI and or screen mirror.
Details: I purchased an Apple Watch 6 and I just subscribed to the Fitness+ service. I have the Apple branded Lightning to digital HDMI adapter.
The phone connects fine with the adaptor. I can see menus, can open Fitness+, can start the workout (this all shows on the TV including the 3 sec countdown). But once the workout starts the video switches back to the iPhone (the audio still plays on the TV). Once I quit the workout, the phone works fine on the TV again (I can see the Fitness+ menus).
I use the same iPhone, adapter, and TV for the FightCamp workout app (a similar service to Fitness+ but only boxing workouts) and it all works great.
I spoke with Apple tech services and they say that “HDMI to screen share Fitness+ is not supported.”
It’s ridiculous that Apple will only let you use Fitness+ on a TV if you also buy the Apple TV box. You can’t use Apple branded Lightning to digital HDMI adapter and you also can’t screen mirror. Apple when are you going to fix this?

What Apple Watch do you have?
Yes, you need an Apple Watch for Fitness+. Apple Watch personalizes your Apple Fitness+ experience by integrating your personal metrics, like your heart rate and the calories you burn, into every workout. It brings them to life on the screen to keep you informed and motivated. To use Apple Fitness+ on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, an Apple Watch Series 3 or later is required.
I have an Apple Watch SE. I have a generation 3 Apple TV. But only the Apple TV HD and 4K work with Apple Fitness +. I really don’t want to buy a new Apple TV just to use Apple Fitness +. Would it work to use an HDMI cable to get the Apple Fitness + to display on my TV?
Considering how much kit that I have from Apple, I find it ridiculous that they have restricted the fitness workouts in this way.
After several extended conversations with Apple, they confirmed this restriction, which is the only Apple app that restricts screen sharing in this way. How does this make sense when you are already a subscriber?
