Can’t highlight to copy and paste on iPad Notes

Since an update in the past few months, I either cannot highlight at all, or it highlights above or below where I touch. This makes Notes pretty useless to me. APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS!!

Has anyone figured out a work-around??

Ios 15.0.2 Notes are invisible when typing On my iPhone 12 Pro Max (but not on my iPad), while running ios 15.0.2, when I try to enter a note in the Notes app, it's invisible. When I go to the Notes list view, I see it. But when I click into it, it's invisible again. What's going on? It may be related, on the ipad the background goes to black. On my phone it's still white. Maybe the text is white on white? I don't know how to adjust that. To be clear, the notes are THERE, but invisible in the clicked-in view

Why can’t I highlight in the notes app? I use the notes app a lot. It is handy, convenient, straightforward. Tell me why I always try to highlight something and the option is not there!!! You’d think apple would have such a basic feature! I’m reconsidering buying another iphone next time I buy a phone. Right now I have Iphone 11.

Things have changed with iPadOS 13 or iPad OS 14, there's nothing to fix.
