Replacement airpod will not pair to the case.

I received my replacement airpod from Apple and followed the instructions to pair it to the case. I’ve successfully paired a replacement previously, so I know I’m doing it correctly. But this time, the light remains amber and flashing. Now what?

The article linked above has a footnote that addresses exactly that situation.

"If the status light still flashes amber, connect the case to power, close the lid, and wait 20 minutes. Then open the lid and press and hold the setup button again for a few seconds until the status light flashes white."

I found out from a supervisor at Apple that it was because the replacement airpod has a different firmware. All I needed to do was let the airpods sit in the case plugged in, as you suggested. I was even told it could take over 24 hours but would eventually work. In my case, 30 minutes later, I tried again and viola!! I’m currently listening to my audiobook in both airpods as I type my thank you to sberman! Ty!
