Apple Mail

When I click on an email in the list on the left, the content of a completely unrelated email appears.

Then if I click on that email the content of the first email is shown. As I go down my inbox this behaviour occurs intermittently. Malwarebytes has not found any problems. I clicked on 'Rebuild' under the mailbox menu but this made no difference.

Hello chetbar,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about email on your Mac.

When you select an email and it chooses another email, is this occurring with all accounts, or specific to one email account? Read emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Have you tried to sync the account? If searching doesn’t find the right emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

"You may need to sync the mailboxes on your Mac with those on the mail server. Choose Mailbox > Synchronize > [account]."

If using iCloud email, is the same thing occurring when you check your email at iCloud.com? This article should help: iCloud: Use iCloud.com - Apple Support

If you need more help, please let us know if this is occurring with all accounts, or one specific account, and if it occurs when you log in manually to the email account using the Safari web browser. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Thank you,

I do not use iCloud mail.

The problem seemed to only apply to G-mail messages to the same account in the Junk folder.

If the messages were transferred to the Inbox it did not change the behaviour, even after Syncing as suggested.

Logging in to Gmail via Safari the emails are correct.

The problem started to occur after a Rule was set up, ‘If sender not in Address Book move to Junk’.

This became onerous as it meant having much too big an Address Book so the Rule has been deleted.

Since deleting the Rule the problem has gone away, so maybe I did not set the rule up correctly.
