Hi there,
When you replace your AirPods, the new AirPod will need some time to charge in the case and update the firmware to work properly. The best thing to do is ensure that the case has at least 40% charge (connected to charging is best), then leave both AirPods in the closed AirPods case for 20-30 minutes. With your phone nearby, this will allow the AirPods to update/match the firmware from the right and left side, then they should be a usable set.
You can also press the white button on the back for 10-15 seconds after following these steps to reset the AirPods. It may also be helpful to 'forget this device' from bluetooth settings and attempt to re-pair them. Good luck!
