Hi there,
During a phone call there was a very loud siren like sound and then the call just hung up. The sound was similar to the noise the emergency alerts make (no there was not an emergency alert). The call then hung up and the 5G symbol went away. I called the person back and the call sounded very echoed so I hung up again and the call was normal.
I had my AirPods in but the sound came from the phone itself.

It appears that you hear a loud "siren" sound while you were on a phone call. Once the alert sound happened, the phone call disconnected and you had to call them back twice before you got a clear signal. We can understand how disconcerting it would be, and we're glad to help with this.
About emergency and government alerts on iPhone and Apple Watch - Apple Support -- We've also experienced this a couple of times. The first time it happened there wasn't any alert message accompanying the sound, but the second time we learned that the alert had been sent in error.
Get Support -- If it happens again without any message accompanying the sound, please contact Apple Support to investigate further. Choose Apps & Features > The topic is not listed. Briefly explain the issue, then Continue to start the conversation.
