I don't have an arrangement tab under system preferences to use extended desktop mode.

The Arrangement tab in the Displays preferences pane only appears when an external display is successfully connected (or if in clamshell mode, you have >1 display connected).
Thank you. I bought the thunderbolt chord to connect my MacBook Pro to my other MacBook Pro and the arrangement tab did not appear.
