Run the free Go64 application before you upgrade, so you will see beforehand, the 32-bit applications that cannot run on the 64-bit only Catalina. If this is a show stopper, upgrade to Mojave instead using Safari to access that link, as it still supports 32/64-bit apps.
Also, check that your printer and/or scanner vendor has drivers available for the destination operating system, or that the printer is supported in Apple's built-in AirPrint.
Never upgrade without performing a Time Machine backup of your current operating system.
Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and download Catalina through the link provided.
