Can I make my iPad 2 compatible with the Apple Pencil? I gave it to my great niece because she wants to use Procreate.

IPad 2 can not operate with Apple Pencil.

it does not have sufficient hardware to do so.

Also the iPad 2 can not use the required

IOS for Procreate. Procreate requires at least IOS 13.XX to run, iPad 2 can only run IOS 9.xx.

The 8th generation iPad can run the App and support the 1st gen pencil

NO iPad made before late 2015 AND the 2017, 5th gen iPad, can use ANY version of an Apple Pencil

None.

Sorry.

Non-Apple Pencil compatible iPads are missing a critical piece of screen layer hardware needed for an Apple Pencil to be recognised and work.

Also, your nearly 10-year old, 2011 iPad 2nd g.en model is too old, now.

That iPad model cannot ever upgrade beyond iOS 9.3.5/9.3.6.

Apple ended support for 8-10 year old iPads, at least, over 3 years, ago.

The internal hardware in that very old iPad is too old, woefully too underpowred and completely incompatible with all later versions of iOS/iPadOS.

Also, the Bluetooth spec of the iPad 2 is too old and out of date!

Virtually, all third party iOS app developers ended/stopped/abandoned supporting these old iPads over two years, ago.

There are virtually, NO MORE older iOS 9 or 10 compatible apps available from the Apple iOS App Store, any longer.

Simply put, your 2nd gen iPad is too old and obsolete now.

Sorry.

If you need/want an iPad with an up to date iPadOS with access to current, updated apps, that is Apple Pencil compatible, then you really need to seriously consider a new iPad model OR a much, MUCH “newer” , used iPad model capable of running the latest iPadOS versions.

There are plenty of newer, older iPad models that can run the latest, current versions of iPadOS and with many older iPad models still compatible with the original, 1st generation Apple Pencil.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!
