Target Display Mode on Mid 2010 iMac with DisplayPort Mini from MacBook Pro 2017 (USB-C)

Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro 2017 via USB-C to a Mid 2010 iMac 27" with DisplayPort Mini?

I have tried connecting through a USB-C to HDMI -> HDMI to DisplayPort Mini. The iMac doesn't respond to Command-F2 or Command-fn-F2.

I'd hate to waste this 27" display, even if it is older than the hills.

You can almost never "stack" display adapters, so your approach is doomed to failure from the beginning.

Use a USB-C (on the 2017 MacBook Pro to Mini DisplayPort cable and it should work.

iMac can to be running later than High Sierra,

MacBook Pro must be OLDER than 2020.
