More affordable iPads with bigger screens?

I just got my first Apple product, but as I'll mostly be using it for reading sheet music, I've realised that the screen is too small, and while the iPad pro is bigger, it also features a very good screen and a number of very good cameras, none of which I need. Seems like a waste to pay for several state of the art cameras when I won't be using them.

I've done a bit of searching, but haven't really found anything yet, so I'm turning to this community for help. Is there any iPad, current model or previous ones, that has a bigger screen, that supports the pen, that isn't crammed with cameras, and isn't completely outdated in terms of hardware?

Thanks in advance for reading and considering helping me.

You never actually said what device you had which you found the screen to small on, so maybe if you told us that we could list out the devices which have bigger screens and their age and what they can do,

There are not many models that support the apple pencil, so if Apple Pencil is what you want then the below list is the best place to start

Apple Pencil compatibility - Apple Support

Apple Pencil (2nd generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (2nd generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad Air (4th generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and later
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation) and later

Apple Pencil (1st generation)

You can use Apple Pencil (1st generation) with these iPad models:

  • iPad (8th generation)
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st or 2nd generation)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch

The devices with the biggest screens are the iPad Pro 12.9, you could look at the 1/2nd generation, which are a few years old, but can do more basic jobs.

I would say maybe an air 3 or iPad 7/8th gen should be ok, the screen is only a bit smaller than a 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

I would say if you had a 8th gen.

The only ones which would be suitable are

iPad Pro 11 inch 1/2nd gen or the iPad Air 4, but these are new devices.

Other than that are the 4 generations of iPad Pro 12.9.

It's worth noting that the

1/2nd gen 12.9 iPad Pro use the 1st gen pencil

3/4th gen 12.9 iPad Pro use the 2nd gen pencil.

So make sure you get the right pencil.

But if you get the 1/2nd gen pro, then your Apple Pencil for the 8th gen will work.

The one you linked is a. 3rd gen, which is a newish one and uses the 2nd gen pencil.

The 1/2nd gen iPad Pro are good devices but you would need to find one second hand.

Ayy, you're right, that is clearly vital information!

It's the iPad (8th Generation), which has a 10.2" screen, if I'm not wrong.

Thanks a lot for all that great input, Bob!

This looks perfect: Refurbished 12.9-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi 256GB - Space Gray (3rd Generation) - Apple

I'm guessing they don't exactly produce those. They are just available if they've had several 3rd-gens to refurbish?

Anyway, thanks again! I know now what I'm looking for which is a lot better than before!
