Macbook Air M1 - kernel panic

With a slightly higher CPU load (during the game), there are repeated restarts, pink stripes appear on the black screen. I cannot interpret the reports (they are identical, see example below). The problem does not occur with the same load on Macbook Air 2015 (Football Manager 2020 game running via Epic Launcher and Chrome). Big Sur 11.1.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

Is there any update on this? Many users seem to have the same issue.

I have contacted apple support and not had any useful resolutions. MacBook M1 pro.

I found a solution to a similar problem with pink screens I detailed here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252113857?answerId=254736837022&login=true&page=2

I had my first M1 replaced but the issue continued with the new machine. I took it in to the Apple Store again and they guessed it was a problem with the connection to the external monitor. They gave me an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and a Belkin UltraHD High Speed 4K HDMI Cable and no more pink screens since then.

I had tried multiple external monitors and multiple adapters on both M1 machines beforehand, but it seems the Apple adapter and the Belkin cable did the trick.

Pink screen with restart just after connecting the MacBook to a dell external monitor and a generic dock directly with two usb-c cables. The problem was happening less frequently since I stopped using an anker hub.

Unfortunately the computer crashed again yesterday.

The log report have slightly changed, I am now know having :

panic(cpu 3 caller 0xfffffe0011997344): "busy timeout[0], (60s): 'AppleAPFSMedia'"

Debugger message: panic

Memory ID: 0x6

The apple senior advisor wants me to do a complete reinstall of the system without using the time machine as the previous backups might be corrupted.

My Macbook Air 16 GB M1 2020, with the 11.5.1 MacOS Big Sur, bought August 1st 2021.

Me too my Screen's turning black and pink dots and lines and reboot. I'd already have Kernel Panic like 7 times.

I'm using at the same time the game Raid from Plarium Play, with Friendly Streaming, Mail, a lot of Firefox tabs and iMessages.

For now, I'm getting used to it but all the reply about changing hardware or remplace the MacBook, I don't know what to do...

What could I do ?

OMG. same problem happening again...

The problem was resolved since 11.5 (I was enjoying the computer for about 45 days...)

Unfortunately my computed just restarted tonight after a freeze along with a pink screen and I'm having the usual error message attached.

Important point : the MacBook M1 air was not connected to any external device and I was using it on the battery (no monitor connected, no hub, nothing).

I am currently on OS 11.6.

Has anyone experienced the same problem recently since the last updates ?

Jun 8, 2021 1:35 AM in response to Libavius

Thank you Libavius for the solution, which might be helpful for some of us, however it is not enough as far as I am concerned. I connect my MBA M1 to my dell monitor via USBC, in order to :

  1. keep the desk clean, with 1 cable only (the monitor charges the MBA via the USBC connection)
  2. use the Dell monitor's USBA hub, to which my webcam is connected, and other USBAs that I can use to charge my peripherals (trackpad/magic keyboard)

So connecting via HDMI is not an option for me. Apple needs to take responsibility by addressing this issue ASAP, this is unacceptable. I can't even bring my MBA to the Store because I need it every single day, and I know that they won't solve the problem.

Jun 28, 2021 12:55 AM in response to Still_in_the_dark

FYI : I haven't had any panic in 3 weeks, just wanted to summarise what I've done, it might be helpful (I hope!)

  • I'm now using an apple thunderbolt 3 cable instead of the cable provided with the monitor.
  • I stopped using Microsoft Office, because I noticed that the panic occurred a lot more when I was working on Word/Excell.

I'm kind of convinced that MsOffice is aggravating the issue, or it might just be the old cable.

I will update you if the issue happens again...

hey I found the problem is related to Football Manager (FM 2020 and FM 2021, not touch version). I contacted support and got a reply:

ARM Macs won't be natively supported but games will potentially run using Apple's built-in emulation for Intel-based apps and games.

We’re following developments closely and are looking to have devices internally to test on, however we don’t currently release ARM specific versions of FM21 and it is not officially supported at this time.

What we would suggest for anyone wanting to try the game, is to download the free Demo available via both Epic and Steam and seeing how it runs, then making their own mind up on whether to purchase.

Hi

FM seems to be the issue. I had the same generic reply from Sega. Surly tens of thousands of people with ARM Mac's with be playing FM, it seems that only a small percentage have this problem. I am wondering what some are doing that others are not.

Did you clean install your Mac M1 when new or transfer over with time machine. I initially had a lot of issues with the transfer causing access and permission issues.
