When I power my macbook on, all I see is a black screen with a lock in the center of it, and what looks like a space where I put in my password. Whenever I type my password in and hit enter, it gets erased, what do I do?

Does it look like the following image?
If so then your MacBook is secured with a firmware password. Just enter that password, not your user account password to access it again.
