Got this solution from Apple support and it worked on my iPad Air 2 running vers. 14.4.2.

Go to Settings>Safari>Request Desktop Website and toggle to off.

Hi Skoora,

It looks like when you try to access Google Maps with Safari on your iPad the app closes unexpectedly. Making sure your apps work properly and allow you to search for locations is important. We're glad to help.

Does Safari close when using other sites or just when trying to use Google Maps? Take a look at the resource below for help when apps close unexpectedly.

If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

We hope this helps. Have a good day!

Using iOS 14.3 on my iPad Air 2.  If I am on Safari and tap on a map that shows up after I have searched for a destination, the google map crashes, reloads and crashes again. Then I get the message: "A repeated error has occurred." The same thing happens if I use Safari to go to google.com and then click on the map icon.

I have no other apps open when on Safari, and I just cleared all my storage and history.

I have posted this problem on the Google community support site. Lots of other people are having this problem. The consistent reply from the Google experts is that "this is most likely a safari / ipad os 14.x issue."

Is Apple addressing this problem?
