I guess I don't understand... how can I keep up with the latest versions of the software I need if I can't upgrade the OS? MS and Adobe are leaving me behind. Why would Apple manufacture an operating system that their own machines can't use??? My iMac works as well today as it did the day I bought it almost 10 years ago... am I supposed to throw it away?
Why do you feel the need to throw it away? If you want or need to use newer versions of software from Microsoft or Adobe, then that is a decision on your part. As you claim the computer works as well as the day you bought it, so if you decide to throw it away, that is on you, not Apple.
It was a rhetorical question. Didn't say I had a need to. Why would I want to throw away a machine that has had zero problems in almost 10 years? Well, zero problems until now... I am just wondering why Apple has made it's own machine obsolete.
Thanks for answering my original question.
High Sierra is the highest possible for that model.
