MacBook battery problem

I bought a MacBook about a year ago. when I bought the MacBook Pro it would shut it self down when the battery got to 50% give or take. I took it back and got a brand new one the next day not problems with that one but twice now the last two days when I have opened the MacBook and logged on the screen has gone blank. I press the power button and its showing a red battery indicating no power. after plugging the charger in the MacBook is loading up and has 53%. can anyone assist with this problem ?
