how do restore my phone but not all photos from i cloud

I would like to backup my old device include photos to the cloud, but only restore all data with exception to the photos. Would like to store the photos, but do not want them synched back to my device as there are 40K of them. I realize rhey are low res, but I still would rather not have to scroll through them all and theres hard telling whats in there.

Ill need a month to sort it out and purge from the cloud via my labtop

thank you.

So if you don’t want it to go to cloud. Delete it first from original device.

Or

i can upload and edit / delete from the cloud

ultimately want to activate my new devices. Keep contacts and messages calendars so forth. But don’t want all 40k photos from old device to come over.

wpuld love to have them on cloud. But just not on my new device.

That was kinda what I had deduced. But gathered it would delete anything I deleted on the phone from the cloud.

I had considered backing up the photos to an external drive just in case.

and then making sure the photo syncs is turned to off on the new phone before restoring from backup. However don’t belive this will truly work.

the restore from backup is gonna bring them all no matter what.

I could I guess restore. Deactivate iCloud photo sharing then delete from device. But belive this will delete from cloud also.

sucks either way

If you turn off iCloud Photo syncing in Settings, deleting them from the device, shouldn't delete them from iCloud. If you have doubts, after turning off iCloud syncing, delete a photo or 2 as a test. Wait a day or so, then check at iCloud.com to see if the photos are still there.

Backing up the photos to an external drive is a good safety measure that would allow you to recover photos if needed.
