In the storage icon, major space taken up by OTHER files. What is this other files and how to delete them ?

I have a 256 GB macbook pro 2019.
total memory used is 250.69 GB out of this 178.56 GB is the other files.
Mac OS I am using is MAC OS Catlina, and its asking for an upgrade which I cannot do sue to short memory
