Language settings

On the previous session to this, I added a couple of languages to my keyboard settings, but keeping my primary language English. When signing on this time, I found, after trying to sign on three times and then asking for a password reset (in spite of the fact I knew I was typing in the right password), that the keyboard setting has jumped to one of the secondary languages, and that was the reason why I couldn't sign in, so I reset the keyboard option at the top right of the screen. On signing in, I immediately went to my languages and regions settings and deleted the other choices. However on the input sources setting for the keyboard, one of my non primary languages had asserted itself in the list (see pic below). Can anyone at Apple please tell me the reasoning behind the Language and Region settings not taking first preference over the keyboard input source settings? They are after all in the very first line on the systems preferences panel. I would have thought it would be common sense to follow that hierarchy.

Language and Keyboard settings have always been totally independent in MacOS. There's no heirarchy because they aim at different things. The Language settings mainly govern the language of the OS interface. The Keyboard settings govern the mapping of your keys.

Many languages also have more than one mapping which can be used to type them. English in particular can be typed with a very large number of keyboards used primarily for other languages. So I think it makes sense to have the user choose the mapping they want separately.

These are user to user help forums, Apple doesn't answer questions, and unfortunately it's usually not possible to find out why they have done something a certain way. But if you think it should be changed, you can use
