Folders and files have disappeared from desktop Mac OS Big Sur after moving to MacBook Pro with M1 chip. Help!

A folder filled with all my documents disappeared from my desktop and from the cloud after installing Big Sur. Tried everything but just found it IN MY TRASH!!!! It had a different name (the date) but everything was there! Be sure to look in your trash!
